Secure Sharing Made Easy

Secure data sharing is an important topic in a growingly collaborative research environment. Data sharing is often mandated by the federal government to encourage collaboration and knowledge exchange. Concerns about data security, however, has prevented wide-spread data sharing from happening for good reasons. in addition, data analysis pipeline sharing has also been a problem.

BioIDE implemented a novel strategy to faciliate and promote data sharing. It boasts the following features:

  • Tight access control: The owner of the data or workflow has the complete control over who can see the data/workflow and when they can be seen.
  • No duplication of data: One reason that makes data owner hesitates to share is that once the data are shared, the owner loses control over who can have it subsequently. With BioIDE, a grantee has read-only access to shared data. Although workflows can be run on shared data, data cannot be copied.
  • Robust admin portal: BioIDE offers a management portal for administrators to monitor and if necessary, intervene on access control.
